Happy Birthday Jako!

We were chatting with my baby sister today—they just got back from their three-month Baja vacation and it happens to be her 57th birthday. She informed us that Rick told her he would take her out for her birthday dinner "soon" (since they just got home last night and he has an appointment with the tax man tomorrow and has a giant pile of documents to go through before that meeting) so she told us what she planned for her own birthday dinner celebration tonight. It sounded so good that we decided not to have leftover stew (which K had made last night and was absolutely delicious) but to run up to Oakhurst to get the same thing Jako is having so that we could celebrate with her 247 miles away.

She told us she was having Korbel "Natural" Champagne (not Brut or Dry) because her favorite chef, John Ash, recommended it—it happened to be on sale at Vons for only $7.20 a bottle. Now Jako told us it was on sale at Long's for $8.99 a bottle so Ken went there to get it while I was shopping for the rest of the dinner at Vons. (When I discovered the price at Vons I picked up their last bottle—no harm in having two!) She said the meal was going to consist of brats with carmelized onions on crusty buns and a nice salad, only thing is she forgot to get the buns and was too tired to go back to the store. So they are having this meal without the buns!

I got some whole grain buns and toasted them, and they were absolutely delicious with the brats. I picked up some broccoli salad at the deli (to which I added a dab of mayo and a pinch of crumbled bacon) which went so well with the sandwiches, and the champagne was exquisite!

It was fun celebrating with you and happy birthday little sistah!

That sounds and looks like a mighty tasty meal. Yum-oh! Is that champagne in that beer glass? If so, y'all were feeling FINE by the end of that meal :> See ya on Friday!

Yup! We shared the whole bottle—it's a really nice, mellow, not-too-bubbly champagne. I'm excited about Friday!

Actually those are the glasses we brought back from our cruise. . . they are battery-operated-sparkling-glasses that glitter or blink or stay on one color—you get to choose—oh-so-festive!

What a great idea, you guys are so ambitious to run up to the store and buy all that stuff!! Our lil sis is getting older, but looking so much cuter and younger the older she gets! That supper look sooo delicious, we're going to have to try it.
