Finally a Summer Garden

One of the things we've missed terribly since we retired in 1999, while enjoying our full time RVer lifestyle, is the love of a vegetable garden. Well, the love is still there, we've just not been able to have one since we move around, especially during the summer months. Well, this year, since we've retired from the RV lifestyle and now enjoy living in a beautiful home, we've been busy getting ready for our summer garden.

Located close to our bedroom window at the back of the house, you can bet I peek out at the garden each morning to see how much everything has grown during the night.

In this raised garden bed are nine tomatoes,two zucchini, and two crook-neck squash. Using the "Bio-Intensive" method of gardening allows many plants in a small area. These beds are only 4' x 6'. When we lived in Southern California we were quite successful using this method.

I circled a key component to our garden since we live in the country now. It's called a "Scarecrow" and it's meant to ward off animals (especially deer, rabbits, and squirrels prevalent here in our beautiful mountain town.) It's a motion detector which squirts water periodically when a critter moves nearby, scaring it away from our precious garden. We're crossing our fingers in hopes that it works perfectly.

In this raised garden bed are two cucumber (one standard and one "lemon" cuke), a tomato plant, an italian yellow pepper, a pepperoncini, a half dozen basil plants, and a jalapeño plant.

We love to sit and enjoy our garden, waiting patiently for the plants to mature, knowing how scrumptious those beautiful home-grown tomatoes will be in a couple months. At the same time we can hear a large variety of song-birds enjoying all the golden oaks, cedar, manzanita, and pine trees.

Life is good!
