The Chickens Arrived . . . and the Chicken Coop is Finished
The Hen House is 8'x12', the Chicken Run is 8'x12', and the section of the box that Jen's day-old-chicks were shipped in is 8" x 10"—I'm thinking we built them the Taj Mahal of chicken coops and they will feel like royalty when they inhabit it. At least that's the way we're feeling tonight . . . real happy with the way the project turned out, and really happy it's done!
Born just over twenty-four hours ago, the day-old chicks arrived at the down-town Fresno post office. Jen was down in Fresno dropping her sister off at the airport to fly home when she got the call to come and pick the chicks up or wait until they can be delivered tomorrow. Well, of course she was there in fifteen minutes!
She and two other "Chicken Moms" in the local 4-H club ordered together, so this 16"x20" box held nearly 50 baby chicks.
One of the last things on our to-do list was the guillotine-type door for the chickens to go from the Hen House to the Chicken Run and back. We needed to figure a way to be sure the door wouldn't come down on a chicken!
Ken's feeling quite happy the job got done, and we both had a good time building it especially working with our daughter and grandkids. As amateurs we stumbled a few times, and sometimes forgot to measure twice before cutting, but we were able to make use of salvaged lumber and were able to save money in the end.

Oh, that's such a good ending/beginning to a happy story! We're all anxious to see you next week...Hugs!
Those chicks are sooo cute! Are all 21 of them in that one little box? I can't wait to see them when they grow up. That chicken coop and hen playpen look mahvolous, darling!
What an awesome job! I can't wait for the girls to transfer to their new home! It is wonderful! Thank you for working so hard. I love you both tons! The girls are doing well and we'll try to keep you updated. I think K is starting her own blog called Simply Country. She'll post updates about our life.
Middle America Mom...there were 51 baby chicks jammed tight in that box. They like to stay tight together to keep each other warm. I couldn't believe how small the box was and the peeps were so loud coming from the box. Too cute!~
